O’Rourke Called Up to Double-A New Britain
- Updated: July 16, 2012
Former Merrimack College pitcher Ryan O’Rourke was called up to the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats on Tuesday after an impressive run through the first half in Single-A ball with the Fort Myers Miracle; both are affiliates of the Minnesota Twins, which drafted O’Rourke in the 13th round of the 2010 MLB draft out of Merrimack.
In 17 games as a reliever at Single-A this season, O’Rourke posted a 5-1 record along with a 2.22 ERA, striking out 21 batters in 28.1 innings. The hard-throwing lefty limited left-handed batters to just a .118 batting average, striking out eight of the 18 lefties he faced; he didn’t allow an earned run until June of this season.
The Rock Cats play in the same division as both the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs (Red Sox affiliate) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto affiliate), who play out of nearby Manchester, New Hampshire.
