Merrimack College director of athletics Glenn Hofmann resigned on Tuesday, The Eagle Tribune has learned.
Hofmann was placed on administrative leave last month and Boston law firm Bingham McCutchen was hired by the school to investigate him.
According to a source, the investigation involved alleged misconduct and was a “personnel matter.” The investigation did not involve college finances, the source said.
College officials said the investigation concluded that the issues were “personnel-based” and that the results of the investigation will not be made public.
Hofmann’s wife, who was an Assistant Vice President in Advancement, is no longer employed by the college.
Associate athletic director Dean O’Keefe was named interim AD last month and will remain in that role. Men’s hockey head coach Mark Dennehy and women’s basketball head coach Monique LeBlanc were each promoted to associate athletic directors.
According to a press release announcing the promotions, which did not specify Hofmann’s resignation, as part of his new duties, Dennehy will spearhead the department’s management of the renovated and expanded Volpe Athletic Center, including the addition of a second hockey rink, new locker rooms, and new weight room and health science facilities. Dennehy will also assist in Hockey East administrative matters, fundraising and additional department initiatives. LeBlanc will assist in directing the department by participating in strategic planning activities, setting department policy, representing Merrimack at conference meetings and other department programs.
Merrimack will begin a national search for a permanent replacement this fall, according to the college.
