Corey LunneyMerrimack College played solid defense down the stretch to hold onto the big 10-8 victory over conference leading No. 9 Saint Michael’s on Tuesday night.

Merrimack (10-2, 9-1 NE-10) returns to Martone-Mejail Field on Saturday afternoon as they will play host to Assumption College at 1 p.m.

“Tonight was a great bounce back win against a very good team on the road,” said head coach Mike Morgan. “The team certainly had a tough hill to climb with coming off a loss, the quick turnaround and traveling far from home against a solid team. They did a great job and should be proud of the way they played.”

The Warriors were led offensively by leading scorer, Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) who finished the game with a team-best three goals and one assist in the big victory. Greg Melaugh (Billerica, Mass.) finished off his game with three points, one goal and two assists while Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) and Kyle Guilbert (Walpole, Mass.) each scored two goals in the victory. Faceoff specialist Patrick Coskren (Norwood, Mass.) continued his solid play winning 14-of-21 faceoff’s and picking up a team-high 11 ground balls.
