Also, announced this on Twitter earlier today, but I’ll be back with the E-T in a smaller role starting tomorrow night at Conte Forum. As I said last week, I’ll be doing a lot more freelance work, and as it turns out, I’ll be freelancing for The Eagle Tribune covering a lot of Merrimack hockey.

The last two weekends were a rollercoaster. Up vs. NU and down vs. BU and UConn. I think that’s partly a product of a young’ish team
I don’t think the BU game was that much of a down
whats everyones pick for frozen four? i know its realy
I thought they threw the kitchen sink at BU in terms of pressure and forecheck. BU D men had no clue what to do with the puck.
im saying 1 from wcha 2 from HE which seams to be the power conference this year and one from ccha
I agree Ryan. Thought we played BU well.

I think that there were stretches in both games where both BU and UConn were winning more of the battles.
I agree with Ryan… The U Conn game was the letdown…like Mack didin’t want it.

I guess you could call it uncharacteristic.
Whatever they did on the forecheck, sending 2 guys constantly, they didn’t repeat that on Saturday.
There were some line up changes on Saturday. I will be curious to see which crew is in this weekend.

It was smaller things than that. I don’t have numbers in front of me, but MC didn’t block nearly as many shots as they tend to. I thought BU won footraces to loose pucks, were the more dominant team on the boards. Part of that is that BU is just a really good team, too.

I agree, the forecheck looked good. There were definitely pieces that you can take away from that game, and the BU game was definitely the better of the two last weekend, IMO, but I thought there were also stretches where it didn’t go so well, obviously.
I don’t think MC got a shot on goal from the point all weekend, definitely lost in that department.
Blocked shots that is.

BU and UConn out-blocked MC both nights. Something like 23-12 roughly both nights
I agree with you Mike. The greatest challenge for the team this year is consistency. That might be the greatest challenge of the young team. They dominate for 2 periods, and let up for 5-10 minutes and give up goals.
In 2nd period, BU had our boys back on their heels in the 2nd. They couldn’t get into play more less block shots. Showed fortitude to come back so hard in the 3rd.

That’s just the product of a young team. A lot of ups and downs.
Saturday was just flat all around.
It was apparent Coach was frustrated during post game interview after U Conn game.
I think he was right on saying that the game UConn played was a game MC used to play, and probably wouldn’t mind playing these days.

UConn beat MC the way MC used to beat the more talented teams. It had to have been like looking in the mirror for mC.
If I remember correctly, he referred to “Hockey For Dummies”. I googled it. The book does exist. lol

People I’ve talked lead me to believe that Atlantic Hockey, although there is chatter, is a very unlikely spot for them.
Myers started the season hot but has cooled off lately. I am hoping he can get back into a groove tomorrow night. I am hoping we an give BC everything they can handle.
who do you guys think have the best following on college hockey?
Myers is a good player. Points will come and go. I am hoping we start getting some secondary scoring.

BC is incredibly fast. They need to survive the flurries and take advantages of opportunities when they arise.
Tom I hope so too.I just think BC have too much talent. That said…if mack can play first to the puck and make no mistakes on transition from d to o, it will be a good game.

BC is going to pressure you everywhere and anywhere, and in all situations. So they need to play a complete game, especially on the road.
In your opinion, is BC the best team in the country ?

One key stat about BC – they had 11 shorthanded goals last year … 11!!!

My belief is it will be Marotta. The rotation will continue indefinitely, IMO. Until someone takes the job. Both guys have played well enough to earn more starts.

One thing to keep an eye on is player usage tomorrow.

For both teams, it’s their only game of the weekend, so coaches can empty the tank. If it’s late and close, we could see the benches shrink to two lines (on both sides). … Should make for an exciting final period.

Not a bad drive with nothing going on in the Fenway area. Storrow to Comm Ave. and shoot right down there. Not that bad.
These western teams definitely play a different style

Important to remember that these are two of the best western schools, heck two of the best schools, period, in the nation
I suspect your suggested lines will be pretty accurate. I know coach likes to spread the talent but I’d like to see heferrnan collins toomey on line one and myers bates and either Bly or singleton on line 2. Pack the first two lines and go for it.
I guess the only time i see these teams are on the national games, typically the top teams

Bly does so many things well. He’s had more of a chance to shine offensively, but quietly, very quietly, he’s one of the most productive players on the ice night in and night out … at both ends.
I thought he played a great game Friday.
Bly was one I noticed constantly pressuring the BU D.

He’s one of the best faceoff men in the league, IMO. Great on the PK.
That line might be one of the hardest working lines in Hockey East

Tynan is a terrific player. He assisted on their first goal and absolutely threaded a needle with a terrific pass through the D
One thing I don’t get about the PP is how close to the blue line they work the puck.

They work it through the points. That big point shot, through traffic hoping for a tip or rebound, seems to be the play they try to use. Especially when Bigos is back there.

Although there were times last weekend, I think against UConn, that they used Bigos in front, too, it looked like.
There has to be a way for MC to get the puck into the middle of the ice when these teams pressure them so hard on the outside. I liked when they got it low when Heffernan score, got the 2 on 1 down low. I feel like there are opportunities for that because of how far out the PK comes against them.

Different teams have played it differently. Week by week almost. IIRC, NU was passive and stayed tighter in their box, allowed MC to rip the point shot.
