Lacrosse: Merrimack Men Not Selected to NCAA Tournament
- Updated: May 6, 2014
Despite a late-season surge that culminated with 12 total wins and a run to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Final – a game which it nearly won in overtime – the eighth-ranked Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team was denied a spot in the 2014 Division II NCAA Tournament, whose field was announced Sunday night.
The Warriors conclude the 2014 season with an overall record of 12-5. That mark included 12 wins against teams in the North Region, with marquee victories coming against two nationally ranked opponents (#1 Le Moyne – NE-10 Semifinals; #9 LIU Post). Boasting one of the strongest schedules in the country, all five of Merrimack’s losses came against opponents ranked sixth or higher at the time of competition according to that week’s USILA National Rankings.
The full NCAA Division II field included the four-team North Region bracket comprised of Adelphi (#1 seed), Dowling (#4), Le Moyne (#2) and LIU Post (#3). The South Region bracket featured Limestone, Queens (N.C.), Mercyhurst and Tampa.
