- Updated: July 18, 2014
After being named an All-America Honorable Mention selection at the end of his breakout 2013 campaign, rising junior wide receiver Jere Brown (Freeport, N.Y.) of the Merrimack College football team has drawn praise by a number of media outlets prior to the start of the 2014 season and has been named a Preseason All-American by both USA Football and Beyond Sports Network.
The 2013 Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team choice and Daktronics All-Super Region I Second Team selection earned recognition by two reputable collegiate football media outlets before even hitting the gridiron this fall; the Freeport, New York native was named to the Second Team Offense in both associations’ Preseason All-America Teams.
Brown is coming off a breakthrough sophomore campaign that saw him start all 11 games and haul in 86 receptions for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 107.8 yards per game and 13.8 yards per catch while ranking second nationally in receiving touchdowns, 18th in receiving yards, 17th in receiving yards per game, 12th in receptions per game (7.8) and 21st in total scoring.
The rising junior also set a new single-season school record in receiving touchdowns (17) while posting six 100-yard receiving games and one 200-yard receiving game. He figures to be the No. 1 offensive threat for a new-look Merrimack squad that will hit the turf on Thursday, Aug. 14, for the start of preseason camp.
Merrimack’s first game of the 2014 campaign is on the road at Division I Bryant University on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. The Warriors welcome LIU Post for the home opener on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
