Gelvis Solano Named NE-10 Player of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After leading the Merrimack College men’s basketball team to a huge 78-73 road victory against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon, as well as pacing the Warriors’ offense over the course of the season, sophomore guard Gelvis Solano (New York, N.Y.) has earned his first Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week award this season, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Solano erupted for a career-high 35 points on 11-of-24 shooting the field, including 2-of-10 from three point range, and 11-of 13 at the free throw line. He also collected six rebounds, two assists, six steals, and a blocked shot in Saturday’s win.
Solano is logging 28.4 minutes per contest this season while shooting 47.0 percent (70-of-149) from the field. He owns a shooting percentage of 37.7 (55-of-71) from three-point land and is pulling down 23.9 points per game. The New Yorker guard also averages 4.1 steals, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
The Warriors return to action this week, starting with a road tilt at NE-10 foe Saint Michael’s on Tuesday (Dec. 17) before wrapping up the week at home against New Haven on Thursday (Dec. 19).
