In a three-game series, it’s obvious that the winner of Game 1 has a higher percentage of winning the series.
In Hockey East’s history, there have been 76 best-of-three quarterfinal series, dating back to the 1989-90 season. In 67 of those 76 series, the winner of Game 1 went on to win the series. That 67-9 series record gives the Game 1 winner a whopping .882 winning percentage.
Only twice (1989-90, 2009-10) has there been two or more Game 1 losers that went on to win their respective series.
The Hockey East quarterfinals begin on Thursday, when No. 1 Lowell hosts No. 8 Maine at the Tsongas Center.
Look what happened in 2010 when they blew the lead in game 1. Very tough to win two straight on the road after that.
