BURLINGTON, Vt. – Union topped Merrimack in the second game of the Catamount Cup Tournament here at the Gutterson Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon, 4-1, behind a four-goal outburst in the third period by the Dutchmen.

Merrimack took a 1-0 lead in the second period when Brian Christie potted his second of the season, on the power play, with 10 minutes remaining in the period.

The Warriors held that lead until the 6:30 mark of the third period, when Daniel Carr scored the first of four goals for Union en route to the victory.

Carr’s power-play tally was followed up by Daniel Ciampini’s even-strength goal seven minutes later. Kyle Bodie added insurance 4:10 after that and Wayne Simpson tacked on an empty netter.

Rasmus Tirronen stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced. Colin Stevens stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced.

The Warriors lose only their second game since 2009 when entering the third period with a lead. Before today the Warriors were 48-1-3 when leading after two.
