Final: Merrimack 4, Army 2

Quinn Gould

NORTH ANDOVER — A three-goal third period propelled Merrimack College past Army, 4-2, in front of a sellout crowd of 2,549 at Lawler Rink on Saturday night.

The Warriors, who entered the third period trailing 2-1, tied the score just 5:33 into the final frame with Mike Collins netted his first goal of the season; he later tacked on an empty-netter for his 100th point in a Merrimack uniform, becoming the first player to do so since Chris Barton hit the plateau near the end of his senior season in 2010-11.

Quinn Gould gave the Warriors the lead just under three minutes later when he entered the zone and was able to fire a wrister (pictured above) that beat Army goaltender Rob Tadazak (39 saves).

Hampus Gustafsson scored his first collegiate goal in the second period.

Sam Marotta stopped 14 shots for his first win of the season.
