Merrimack College erased a two-goal deficit in the final 31:43 to earn a 2-2 come-from-behind tie against No. 3 Notre Dame Saturday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first 21:33 of the game on a power-play and shorthanded goal, the Warriors cut the deficit with 11:43 remaining in the second period; Clayton Jardine fired a shot from the left circle, through traffic, that beat Steven Summerhays.
It remained a 2-1 game until the 18:51 mark of the third period, when sophomore Vinny Scotti potted his second goal of the season with the extra attacker on the ice, tying the score.
Each team registered a shot in the scoreless overtime.
Rasmus Tirronen made 30 saves for the Warriors while Summerhays stopped 25 shots at the other end. The Warriors were without Mike Collins, who missed the game due to a shoulder injury. It was the first time Collins missed a game since Jan. 8, 2012. Collins has only missed five games in his Merrimack career.
