Cannata named Hockey East First Team All Star, Stollery named to Second Team

Posted on March 15, 2012 | in News | by

Merrimack senior goaltender Joe Cannata was named the goaltender on Hockey East’s First All Star Team on Thursday night at the league’s annual banquet. Fellow senior Karl Stollery was named to the second team.

Cannata will graduate as Merrimack’s all-time leader in wins, games played, minutes played, saves, goals-against and save percentage. He started all but one game in his final two years and allowed only 27 even strength goals (excluding empty netters) in 27 league games this season. The Wakefield native surrendered more than two goals only eight times this year, as Merrimack went 18-2-4 when scoring two or more goals. Cannata has a 2.18 goals-against and a .925 save percentage this season and a career goals-against of 2.47 and a save percentage of .915.

Stollery became Merrimack’s all-time leader for career games played after playing in his 145th career game last Sunday. Missing only one game in his career, Stollery led Merrimack defenders with seven goals and 21 points this season to go with a +13 rating. Merrimack’s leader in ice time in all four years of his collegiate career, Stollery was an assistant captain last year and was the team’s lone captain this season. In 145 career games, Stollery has 83 career points, second in Merrimack’s Division I history among defenders.
